Conservative Kemi Badenoch became Saffron Walden’s MP and secured a near 25,000 majority in the 2017 general election. Mrs Badenoch, who is currently deputy leader of the Tory group on the London Assembly, replaced Sir Alan Haselhurst in the seat after he chose to step down.

Kemi said after the votes were counted that: "It has been an overwhelming night and I am so grateful to everyone who helped me get here. Thank you for every vote, but regardless of who you voted for I will be working hard to represent you and give Saffron Walden a strong voice in Parliament."
