John Moran

Essex County Councillor for Saffron Walden

I intend to make being a County Councillor the only job I do. I will not stand for any other elected posts during my tenure to avoid conflict that holding more than one Councillor position can create and to allow me to concentrate my efforts on effectively representing the residents of this seat at their County Council. My strong belief is that for the last 4 years the people of Saffron Walden and the surrounding villages have not been effectively represented by Residents for Uttlesford who's focus has clearly been on District Council matters, my focus will be fully on ensuring the provision of the best possible level of service from Essex County Council to the people I will represent. I am seeking to be an influential ally of the decision makers, and not an un-influential critic who stands on the side-line, providing opposition for oppositions sake, and presenting a negative image of Saffron Walden to the wider County of Essex."

My priorities are...

  • Continued improvement in our already excellent schools
  • Safer, well maintained, efficient roads
  • High quality adult care and care at home that supports independent living
  • High quality, cost effective services for local people
  • Promoting healthy lifestyles and well being
  • A vibrant, commercially successful Saffron Walden
  • Villages that maintain their character and provide quality places to live
  • Preservation of local Essex heritage

I have lived in a North East Essex village for nearly 25 years with my wife Patricia and our four daughters. We can trace our Essex roots back to the 1700s, Patricia to a family of Church Rectors from Radwinter and mine to farm labourers based near Witham. Clearly my interest in the Countryside must be genetic! After studying marine biology, I started work managing a large Nature
Reserve in Devon, later moving to Hertfordshire to join the County Council there as a Countryside Manager.
