Chelmsford City Council Conservatives

You’ve elected us to run the City Council for another four years, after electing us to run the then Borough Council in 2011, 2007 and 2003.

Since 2003 Chelmsford has made excellent progress after stagnating under the Liberal Democrats, and following May 2011′s elections we had a sufficient majority to enable us to make Chelmsford & South Woodham Ferrers even better.

In 2012 the Queen granted Chelmsford City Status and this has had a big impact, with new employers coming to the city and sites that had laid dormant when the Lib Dems were in control, such as Marconi and the old Anglia Ruskin University site, now being developed rapidly, bringing much-needed new homes and affordable housing to Chelmsford.

Work is well underway on the new John Lewis store and Next will have a new large store next to Primark in the council-owned High Chelmer Shopping Centre. The income from the Centre is used to keep your council tax as low as possible.

So much has happened in the eleven years of Conservative control that I only have room for a few highlights, but a full list is shown in our Manifesto for the May 2015 election.

Conservative led Chelmsford City Council is the first ‘Safer Community’ in the UK, as confirmed by the World Health Organisation: Our Parks have just been voted ‘The Best in the East of England’ and will be building a new Leisure complex at Riverside.  In South Woodham Ferrers the swimming pool is extremely popular and the new 3G football pitch at William de Ferrers will be ready later this year.

All of this has been done while keeping Council Tax rises as low as possible, despite all the problems the country inherited from the previous Labour Government, and there is no rise in Council Tax this year.

Your Chelmsford Council tax is, on average, around £200 per year. All the rest goes to Essex County Council, the Police and Fire Services and to your Parish or Town Council.

We work only for you. We follow the Conservative principles of sound financial management but we are residents too, and want the best for Chelmsford & South Woodham Ferrers.
